Energy & Resource Efficiency
Metropolregion macht mobil
Against the background of the global challenges of climate change, the topics of energy and resource efficiency increasingly gain importance. The Metropolregion Hannover Braunschweig Göttingen Wolfsburg offers an ideal regional scenario for the development of innovative plans to increase the production of energy from renewable sources and to reduce the consumption of energy. A strong connection to the topic Transport and Electric Mobility arises.
As the first metropolitan region in Germany the municipalities in in the Metropolregion Hannover Braunschweig Göttingen Wolfsburg decided to cover their energy needs for electricity, heat and mobility from renewable sources until 2050. In the last years the Metropolregion carried out various model projects in the area of town-country-cooperation to achieve the 100%-goal. Part of this is the project Metropolregion E-Stadt-Land-Kooperation for the change to 100% renewable energies funded by the Federal Government. In this context, the idea was developed along Magistrals and concretised with an energy avenue along the motorway A7 and the railway line Hamburg-Göttingen (Kunstschiene).
The Metropolregion is carrier of the project EnerKlim that is funded by the Federal Ministry for Environment. In the project the municipal climate concepts are linked and the impact of climate change on the production of renewable energies is investigated.
